HISTORY
Prof. Dr. Dincer Topacık National Research Center on Membran Technologies and Application Center (MEMTEK) was initiated as a project in 2010 and inaugurated in 2013 with the contributions of the State Planning Organization and the ITU Rectorate.
MEMTEK has become one of the leading research centers in the field of membrane technologies by conducting research in membrane production, module development, and process optimization for water and wastewater treatment applications. The center has gained valuable experience and produced important outcomes that have contributed to advancements in the field.
Since its establishment, MEMTEK has trained more than a hundred qualified researchers in membrane technologies. The center organizes symposiums to share the data and experiences obtained from these research activities, primarily with academia, public institutions, and the private sector, and to create a platform for discussions on membrane technologies.
The MEMTEK Symposium, first held in 2009, has been organized biennially at the national level. The first two MEMTEK Symposiums took place at Istanbul Technical University in 2009 and 2011. Following this, the symposium was held in Elazig by Firat University in 2013, in Isparta by Suleyman Demirel University in 2015, and in Istanbul by Gebze Technical University in 2017.
In 2019, the symposium was held at an international level, with subsequent events organized by Istanbul Technical University in 2019 and 2023. By bringing together professionals, engineers, public institution employees, and companies, the symposium has shed light on future research directions in membrane production and membrane treatment technologies. It has also provided a platform for participants to discuss the latest developments in membrane technologies and exchange knowledge.
The 8th MEMTEK Symposium (MEMTEK 2025) will be held in 2025, once again at the international level, hosted by Ege University in Izmir. This symposium will feature world-renowned scientists as invited speakers and will be a cutting-edge event in the field of membrane research, continuing the MEMTEK symposium series as an important venue for presenting the latest information and inspiring new research.
